World Day for Cultural Diversity for Dialogue and Development is annually held on May 21 to help people learn about the importance of cultural diversity and harmony. That being said, in my country, cultural diversity is viewed in a special way because my country prides in unity. Cultural diversity is seen as a way of educating people that there’s more to life than one’s own culture hence helping people to be more open minded when it comes to other cultures. My country, Botswana, is a multilingual and a multi-ethnic nation so cultural diversity is viewed with the utmost value and respect! During this day people choose to honor the cultural diversity by not only observing the day but by bringing people of different ethic groups to come together and share their stories. It is eye opening and promotes unity among a variety of people. People in my country also spend this day by performing their traditional dance in honor of cultural diversity.

Cultural diversity is viewed in an educational way in my country, educational seminars are hosted to celebrate the day by teaching and spreading the importance of cultural diversity. It is a way of inspiring people to observe the day and see it’s essentialness. During this day we are taught to love, respect and recognize one another despite our differences. We are also taught about a variety of cultures and given the background of how different cultures came to being. We are taught about the history behind different groups of cultures. People are also encouraged to wear their traditional attires as a way of illustrating the Beauty of diversity. People are also encouraged to gather and share different foods from different cultural groups as a way of appreciating cultural diversity.

Hi good people! You definitely can't talk about cultural diversity without mentioning Kenya. I think Kenya has to be the most culturally diverse country in Africa and also the world. In Kenya we have more than 43 ethnic communities the largest being the Kikuyu. All this communities have totally different linguistic properties, way of living, traditional clothing, cuisines and e.t.c. However, due to civilization most communities have adopted the modern way of living for example they have dropped traditional clothing to modern ones and also the way of living has changed a little bit. But there's still one unique community which has refused to adopt to the modern world and is still maintaining their interesting culture to date. Join me in class as we learn Swahili and also the Kenyan and East African culture
