Hey, I'm Taka. I don't look like a typical Japanese teacher — I've been asked "Are you really Japanese?" and even mistaken for Portuguese. Some call me a therapist, not a teacher. I'll take that as a compliment.
Based in Tohoku, passionate about ramen and real Japanese conversation. I spent half my life in Tokyo working in the fashion industry. Now I'm back home, exploring agriculture and enjoying life at my own pace.
I love talking to people from all over the world and learning about different cultures. Every student teaches me something new. Nothing makes me happier than that "Wow, I actually said that!" moment.

If you want to study Japanese in an academic, in-depth way, my lessons may not be the right fit. In that case, I recommend a teacher who specializes in that approach.
My lessons are conversation-focused above all else. I don’t focus on what is “correct” or “wrong,” but on whether expressions are natural for native Japanese speakers. Through free conversation, you’ll learn living Japanese: natural rhythm, expressions actually used in daily life, and real conversation.
As my students often say, the lessons are fun and full of laughter, and in this enjoyable atmosphere, you’ll develop the ability to speak naturally and confidently with Japanese people — as an equal.我的教材

I'm coming up on 200 lessons with Taka-san and have enjoyed every one! I still look forward to each lesson and feel that I have improved a lot since I began lessons with him. Taka-san is very easy to get along with, he has a relaxed style and guides you to speaking natural Japanese like a native. You will need to expose yourself to natural Japanese because everyday spoken Japanese is not what is taught in textbooks. Taka-san does a great job of guiding you to speak naturally and shows you how Japanese conversations normally flow. He will guide you to the correct words and phrases to use. He is constantly reminding me about 'aizuchi', or the short responses/phrases you need to use to ensure the speaker knows you are listening, because I always forget. I understand so much more conversational Japanese after taking lessons with Taka-san. You won't regret taking a lesson with Taka-san, that's why I keep doing it!

Another great lesson! Taka san has perfected the art of the conversational lesson approach- helps out when you need it but also has the patience to give you the space to figure things out. Fantastic!
