Marlén G

I have met 15 tutors on Italki and been working regularly with about 7 of them. While I am extremely grateful to all of them, Marlén stands out. As a conversationalist, Marlén is the one with whom I feel the most comfortable (a downside is that now I'm more "fluent" when talking with her than with other people). As I progressed further, we got to talk about literature. Only then did I realize that she is a master of the Spanish language and Hispanic literature (pun intended - she does have a master's), not just an "equis", run-of-the-mill native speaker. Over the past year, we have read about 30 short stories together. I appreciate the time that she spends outside of the class, though admittedly she reads faster than I do :). We also talk about subtleties of the language and mistakes that native speakers make, and her explanations never disappoint me. I'm sure that she can cater to all your needs, be it grammar, structured lesson or conversation.

It's been about a year and a half since I've started my lessons with Marlén and I hope to continue learning Spanish with her!! She's always so kind and patient and we laugh so much. It's a delight to talk with her. She is simply the best. :) I'm thankful that I found Marlén on italki!

Tuve el gusto de tomar una clase con Isabel. Como alumno que está comenzando a ganar fluidez oral, su clase me hizo sentir en total confianza para expresarme. Es una profesora excepcionalmente cálida e inteligente, que crea un ambiente ideal para aprender. ¡La recomiendo sin duda alguna!

Marlén is a wonderful Spanish tutor that I've had the honor of working with over the past year. She's incredibly kind and patient, and fosters a welcoming atmosphere where the student feels comfortable speaking and making mistakes. She deftly guides our conversations to chat about a wide variety of themes and topics, keeping a steady introduction of new words with each session. However, class never feels boring or repetitive; instead, it always feela like catching up with a good friend. I've been working with Marlén for a little under a year, and my ability for Spanish conversation has improved significantly. If you're looking for a kind, professional, and interesting Spanish teacher, then Marlén is the perfect choice!

No se puede pedir una mejor maestra. La piedra angular de nuestra clase es la lectura. Leemos un libro que elegimos según avanza la semana, y durante la lección hablamos de los temas, la trama, los personajes y los significados del libro más allá de lo literal. El ojo crítico de Marlén brilla, y ella tiene un don para crear un ambiente en el que uno se siente cómodo, incluso si no ha hablado mucho, como es mi caso. ¡Espero con ansias nuestra siguiente clase!

Marlen is my favorite. Not to sound dramatic, but she has literally changed my life! I went from a beginner to now, testing at a B1 level within a year or so of focused learning. Marlen is patient, kind, and funny. I always look forward to my lessons with her!
