My name is Katla and I am a native speaker of Danish and German. I also taught myself to speak native-level English, Swedish and Dutch, and I have a degree in comparative linguistics, specialising in north-germanic (ie. scandinavian) languages. So I have a few language learning tricks up my sleeve, I can share with you. Outside of teaching Danish here on italki, I am working towards a post-graduate degree in computer science. In my spare time I enjoy reading, cooking, coding, learning languages, spending time with friends and family as well as being in nature.
Every student is different but I always try my best to create a welcoming and relaxed atmosphere in my lessons. My approach to teaching is highly affirmative. This means that I won’t just help you learn Danish, I will also help you build your confidence. So that you can use what you have learned independently, confidently, and creatively with other native speakers. Even though I am a native speaker, I am aware of the fact that the Danish language and especially its pronunciation provides many challenges for language learners and mastering Danish won't happen overnight. But I will help you get there, however long it takes, and together we can make it fun!
I am a community tutor who teaches. This means that I will be more than just a conversation partner, I will also provide materials for us to work with. These include texts and audio recordings suited to your level, discussion questions, images, and exercises. They are ...我的教材

I have been practicing my Danish with Katla for almost two years, and I couldn't be happier with our lessons. The conversations always feel very natural, and Katla always creates a very comfortable and safe space where I don't feel pressured and motivates me to try new things. She does a great job at adjusting to a level that is understandable yet just challenging enough so you're always learning something new. I especially appreciate the concrete feedback I get at the end of our lessons. This way, I always know what I can try to focus on next time.
