Hi! ☺️ I’ve been teaching young learners Japanese online for a few years, helping students grow from beginners to confident speakers. With 10+ years of experience teaching music in Japan—and homeschooling my multilingual child—I make lessons fun, creative, and tailored to you. We might explore manga, traditions 🎎🎋, or practice real-life conversation. I also offer singing lessons, from traditional songs to J-pop 🎶. Currently, I’m helping an older student prepare for her trip to Japan 🏯. Whatever your goals, I’d love to support you.
Outside of teaching, I like growing flowers and veggies, love cooking, and I’m into Miyazaki anime and some J-pop.

My students have created their own manga, made YouTube videos in Japanese, and even traveled to Japan. One of them achieved his dream of seeing his favorite band live in Tokyo! My lessons are fun and interactive, so you actually enjoy learning instead of feeling stressed. I love finding out what your goals are and how you like to learn, because everyone’s different—and that makes lessons way more personal.
I usually use online resources and my own materials, but some students like working with textbooks too. For those students, I recommend Japanese from Zero.
For kids, I provide lots of printable materials and will ask a parent to print them. I also have a free-style class for intermediate students.我的教材

I had the pleasure of having my first lesson on italki with Sumiko. She was incredibly friendly, had brilliant English and did a great job of settling my nerves even though I was super nervous trying a 1 on 1 lesson / speaking for the first time. She is patient, kind and very fun to talk with. She helped us come up with a future plan for learning, and has filled me with optimism. ありがとうございます！
