I just had my first lesson with Stan. My Finnish level is intermediate, but I would recommend him for any level. He speaks slowly and clearly. In the first lesson, we discussed what I have done to study so far and how I like to study and what methods he would suggest and I would like to use going forward. He was really attentive to my needs and flexible. He is also knowledgeable of the various materials for learning Finnish. Even though he is not a 100% native speaker, I think he will be a very good teacher. Sometimes, native speakers don't notice things like people who had to work to learn the language. At the end of our lesson, Stan summarized what were some repeated mistakes that he noticed - which was helpful to me. He didn't focus on any single mistakes - which some teachers mistakenly do. Instead, he is looking for patterns, because isolated mistakes happen and patterns are places for improvement. I am looking forward to our next lessons.
