Graduated Language Teacher | Master Conversational Portuguese with Authentic Materials Hi there! My name is Karine. I'm originally from the sunny coastal city of Maceió, Brazil, but I am currently based in the vibrant state of São Paulo! I am a naturally curious person who is passionate about music, literature, and gaming. When I'm not teaching, you might find me playing the guitar, crocheting, or relaxing with my three cats and my dog. I actually taught myself English, so I know exactly what it feels like to tackle a new language from zero. I know the frustrations, but I also know the best shortcuts! I believe learning Portuguese should be about connecting with the people and the culture. My main priority is to create a welcoming, respectful environment. I hold a degree in English from the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL). My journey as a teacher began during my university studies, where I taught English to the local community and fellow students as part of a university-led project. I later transitioned to online teaching for language institutes. After graduating, I continued working at language schools and as a private tutor, which has solidified my specialty in guiding beginner-level students. I have a deep understanding of the initial challenges of learning a language and know exactly how to build the strong foundation you need to advance toward fluency with confidence. Karine is a very calm, positive, caring and a creative teacher to study Portuguese with. In my first class she taught me different kind of phrases that I can use to talk to people in Portuguese during my travels. She also encouraged me to speak the language so that I can learn new words and improve my speaking skills. It was a nice class to understand and connect with the Portuguese language.
