Connecting with people is one of my favorite things (with bonus points if it happens in a second language). I also love rock climbing, hiking, and playing retro video games (bonus points if it happens in a second language). I travel whenever I can (high points include Germany, Spain, and Mexico). I once spent a couple years living in Norway, and my secret dream is to move there again.
Professionally, I have over a decade of experience of teaching and tutoring in a variety of fields. I have published translations of German and Latin poetry and presented on student success in second-language learning in the university setting. I'm fascinated by languages, linguistics, and instruction.我的教學經歷
I have a long history of teaching in a variety of capacities. I have taught in the university and high-school classroom, tutored independently, taught English as a second language, and worked as a university learning specialist for neurodiverse students and students with learning disabilities.
I think that patience, empathy, and enthusiasm are some of the most important characteristics that a teacher can have, and I believe that when I meet my students where they are, we can achieve great things. I like to incorporate my students' interests into my teaching, because that usually makes progress happen faster, and it always makes it more enjoyable.我的課程內容與教學風格
I believe strongly in student-led instruction. While I have the know-how, you know what you want to learn--and why you want to learn it. I strive to honor that and to work with you as a partner to help you achieve your goals.
I often find that people are overly afraid of language learning and tend toward perfectionism, so whenever possible, I try to bring things down a notch and create an environment where it's safe to make mistakes. At the same time, I'm fascinated by grammar, pronunciation, and etymologies, and I'm happy to take deep dives with people who share those interests. I'm also great at leveraging any previous experience you have with other languages to help you learn a new one.德語課程
