Born in the Chicago area but rooted in Spain for 14+ years, I’m a TEFL-certified teacher specializing in *natural, confident English conversation*. Fluent in Spanish, I’ve lived the language-learning journey myself—frustrations, triumphs, and all! My lessons blend cultural insights (think tapas chats or baseball idioms) with practical speaking practice, perfect for students who want to *sound authentic* and enjoy the process. Let’s have fun turning mistakes into progress—*¡vamos!* What's important to me as a teacher is for my students to feel comfortable speaking in class, not afraid to make mistakes and to be aware of their progress. I do this by creating a relaxed setting, not interrupting my students and correcting necessary mistakes towards the end of my lessons (or even better, having them correct them on their own), and always encouraging them as they move along on their language-learning journey. My students and their own particular needs help to shape my teaching style. I believe that no one size fits all and once I get a feel for what my students are looking to achieve linguistically, their strong and weak areas, and how they learn best, I am able to better adapt my lessons to suit them and help them improve.

I really enjoyed my lesson with Kathleen. We thoroughly discussed my learning plans and the goals we’ll be working toward, and we also outlined the tools and methods we’ll use in our sessions. I shared all my preferences, which the teacher carefully noted, and she asked clear follow-up questions on every topic I’m interested in. Together, we set realistic goals and agreed on how we’ll move forward. I highly recommend her. I’ve been taking lessons with Kathleen for two months now, and I can safely say that I’ve found my new favourite teacher on italki! Even though my main goal is conversational practice, there are many things that need to click in order to work with someone in the long run: a kind personality, genuine interest in the other person, and the ability to talk about almost anything.
