Ayman Fawy

I Had my first lesson with Ayman today. A really enjoyable introduction to the Arabic language. I was struggling to start with but Ayman recognised this and adapted his ways of teaching to my needs which put me at ease. I look forward to the next lesson, expanding my knowledge and understanding of the language.

Ayman helped me to understand the differences between the verbs about meeting or meeting up with someone in Arabic and when they are used. He also taught me the words for priest and father in a church setting. It was very helpful conversation.

It is always fun to hear Ayman's stories about traveling to the US and the differences between eating here and in Egypt and the different weather patterns as well. We also talked about looking up words in the Egyptian dictionary and I am encouraged to know that even native speakers struggle with learning new words and understanding at times. This makes me feel like I have a long way to go to get better at Arabic but at the same time it keeps me encouraged that even now I am doing well. I have noticed myself understanding TV shows and dialogues on podcasts a lot better since working with Ayman.

Ayman explained some cultural differences between Egypt and the US and western cultures more generally and what things are appropriate to say and not. This was very helpful as I feel so much more prepared for going to Egypt. I have learned a lot of new vocabulary and have noticed myself speaking more fluently with Egyptians at an Egyptian festival this week. I'm looking forward to more lessons with Ayman.

Ayman helped me to talk about coffee houses and learn the vocabulary associated with the different types in Egypt. He helped me to understand restaurants and the portion sizes offered and differences between street food and indoor restaurants as well. This will come in handy when I visit Egypt. I am very pleased with all the progress I've made being taught by Ayman.
