In the past 18 lessons I have had with Haylie, my command of Mandarin has improved immensely. Instead of just stringing words together, I feel that I can express a wider range of ideas while becoming more immersed within modern culture. As an additional benefit, my Cantonese also improves speaking to a native Hong Kong resident. If patience is a virtue, then Haylie would be quite a virtuous instructor. Combined with her humor, astuteness, and ability to read atmosphere, she can cater to individuals and be a true companion to your language learning journey. I appreciate her typing out each unknown word in English, Chinese Character, and Pin Yin as I recognize that takes quite a bit of effort. Learning w/ Haylie is super fun. She's such a genuine and hilarious person that I always find that our one-hour lessons fly by in an instant. I don't want them to end! She creates a fun, non-judgmental space where I feel comfortable experimenting w/ the expressions and grammatical structures which she has explained to me. In general, she has helped w/ my Mandarin fluency a LOT! 谢谢你！

Haylie is bright, knowledgeable, and fun to learn from! I love learning Cantonese from her, in English, with Japanese as our other common language to lean on for grammatical or cultural concepts that aren’t the same in English. 💕 Haylie has a plan for lessons but is always happy to pivot to make things more applicable for my learning goals or questions. I loved my first lesson with Haylie! I didn’t think it was possible to find a Cantonese teacher who could use both of my native languages to explain Cantonese concepts, but Haylie can! 💯 I’m excited to continue learning :)
