Hi, I’m Mary. I’m a friendly, outgoing and passionate English teacher originally from England and now living in Asia. I am a native English speaker, and I hold a degree in English Literature from Durham University. In addition, I have three years’ experience of teaching English as a foreign language in a Senior High School in Japan and six years’ experience of teaching private conversation classes to people of all ages and backgrounds. I also hold a professional qualification in business and have over ten years’ experience working in business in London.
我的教學經歷
I strive to be creative and energetic in my lessons to bring the English language to life. My mantra is ‘ESID’ (Every Student Is Different); no two students are the same, and that’s why we discuss exactly what you want to achieve in the trial lesson.
I’d love to talk to you to find out more about what you are looking for. You can book a trial lesson below, and we can discuss your goals and preferences and then begin the journey of reaching them!
I hold three main types of sessions, as detailed below.
我的課程內容與教學風格
Informal Conversation: Pick a topic of your choice, and we’ll explore the topic together to improve your fluency.
Learn English with Mary: Firstly, I’ll check your current level of English during the trial lesson. Then, using this information, we’ll create a targeted plan of classes just for you, using PDF worksheets as well as a host of other real-life resources! We will explore your goals during the trial lesson and set out a plan to suit your needs.
Business English: Need help with your CV/resume or for an interview/presentation? Need to improve your sector or technical vocabulary? No problem, book a trial lesson, and we’ll design a session just for you!

I’ve been studying with Mary at Italki for two years now. My initial goal was to improve my spoken English, fill in some grammar gaps, and work on my accent — all in order to get a job at an international company. I’ve successfully achieved that goal, and I’m very grateful for her support along the way.
What I especially want to highlight is her active engagement in every lesson. Thanks to her involvement, I was able to start speaking freely and develop real confidence in communicating in English.
I also deeply appreciate her structured approach and the way she works across different areas at the same time — from fixing grammar gaps to improving pronunciation and accent. This not only helped me achieve my goals efficiently, but also made the lessons engaging and varied.
I continue learning with her and highly recommend her to anyone looking to improve their English skills.

Mary is an intelligent and brilliantly skillful teacher. She is not only very dedicated and committed but also an exceptionally likeable person, so that lessons with her are always extremely enjoyable and very helpful. I really appreciate the work and effort she puts into our lessons, and I look forward to working more with her in the near future.

Each class with Mary is great, either if it's a grammar class or conversational. Everything seems so clear and easy when she explains it, and she has patience to discuss the same structures in different contexts. Thank you.
