It was not the fault of the tutor - it was my being overwhelmed by all the words on the dashboard. WHen I went into lessons, it asked me to confirm a lesson was completed that hadn't started yet then when I click on chats, nothing happens. I stumbled on a long list of chats from the teacher that I had missed since the first class. I am just horrible with technology as crowded as this is - I could not see the simple 'join class' that I saw on the trial class. This is all my fault and I am going to just try and figure out how to understand it all. Apologies to my tutor.
