Hi! I’m a native Japanese speaker, born and raised in Japan. I also spent five years of my childhood in two English-speaking countries, which gave me a deep understanding of both languages and cultures.
I graduated from a university in the UK, earned my TESOL certification there in 2018, and passed the Japanese Language Teaching Competency Test in 2020. With a strong background in both Japanese and English education, I love helping learners connect the two languages in a clear and logical way.

I have extensive experience teaching complete beginners—even students who can't yet read hiragana. I’ll guide you step-by-step, building your skills with clear explanations and patient support.
My lessons are also popular with travelers preparing for trips to Japan. I provide role-play materials for real-life situations like checking into hotels, ordering at restaurants, using trains, and more. Some students take lessons for weeks or months before traveling—others even book the day before their flight!

Yasuka? More like YASSSSSSSSuka! This phenomenal tutor is everything you could want in a tutor, and more. Equipped & certified to teach both Japanese AND English, she is exceptional at navigating a wide range of linguistic levels. Not only that, but she is already familiar with a wide variety of resources, and has even compiled HER OWN resources!!! I could not recommend her more highly. My only complaint is that her time zone results in me having my lessons at 10:00pm, which is definitely less than ideal. That being said, I've just booked another 5 lessons for 午後十時, so that should say something (I think I've finished 10 or so lessons so far). I could keep ranting, but I'll just recommend that you take a few lessons with her yourself--- 頑張って!

I’ve been working with Yasuka for a couple of months now and am feeling more confident in understanding and speaking Japanese everyday, the lessons have quickly become a highlight of my week. I am always impressed with her ability to foresee where I will have difficulties as a native English speaker and guide me through them. I highly recommend working with Yasuka if you wish to learn Japanese and have fun along the way.

I am a beginner student and Yasuka and I are working through the Genki I textbook. I have nothing but wonderful things to say about her teaching. She explains each grammar point as presented in Genki effectively and concisely. She then provides you with even more context, rule exceptions, and real world applications. I consider myself a curious student and Yasuka always takes the time to answer my (many) questions and I really appreciate that. I always look forward to our lessons! If you are a beginner student like myself, I cannot recommend Yasuka enough. She will provide the guidance and focus that you need to improve week by week.

Yasuka is very knowledgeable, so she can easily explain language concepts. If there was something I was puzzled by or couldn't quite understand, her answers made grammar, word choice, and sentence meaning clear and understandable.
