Learn with Yu Zhe

When I first started learning from Yu Zhe, I knew a decent amount of grammar and vocabulary from studying on my own, but I couldn't really understand spoken Chinese (I could recognize the occasional word or phrase, but that was about it). I've now completed 20 lessons with Yu Zhe, and this past weekend, I was thrilled to realize I could understand about 50% of what my wife said on a phone call to her parents. I'm really looking forward to where I'll be after another 20 lessons!

Been learning with Yu Zhe for 2.5 years now and it's impossible to comprehend how far I've come in my Mandarin! Going from incoherently speaking small sentences to having full conversations for an hour is an incredible feat only possible with an experienced and caring teacher. I'll be back in 2026 for more lessons (and you should, too!).

Yu Zhe is one of the best Chinese teachers I've had -- he's always prepared for class, is willing to tailor the class to your interests and needs, and is extremely knowledgeable about various topics (including history and culture). I strongly recommend anyone wanting to improve or maintain their Chinese level take a class with Yu Zhe

I had to step away because I got overwhelmed with work stuff, but now I'm back. Yu Zhe was super understanding, as always. He reminded me that language learning is a long journey, so I need to pace myself. He's full of wise observations like that! Another of my favorites is when he points out that something I said was basically an English sentence with Chinese words (when I mistakenly use English word order rather than Chinese word order).

Today we went over new vocabulary terms, including about Chinese feng shui. We discussed and learned a lot!
