In my 20 years of teaching, I have taught all types of learners: from elementary to proficient, infants to elderly, Business English, General English and everything in between. I have worked for the industry leading organizations such as English First, International House and the British Council. I have led high profile educational projects including for the National Parliament of Myanmar, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Ethiopia and the Ministry of the Interior of Qatar.
However, here on iTalki, my exclusive focus is on IELTS for adults. I have extensive experience with IELTS with 7,000+ actual speaking exams. My knowledge of the exam can help you identify your strengths & weaknesses.我的課程內容與教學風格
As an exam preparation teacher, my goal is to make sure you fully understand the DOs and DONTs of the IELTS exam. My materials, developed during my time at the British Council, will take you through, step-by-step, the requirements of the exam to best ensure you are receiving the best possible score for your language level.
My IELTS lessons are based on years as an IELTS examiner. I have conducted more than 7,000+ real IELTS exams for Cambridge (I uploaded my "Invitation to Examine" to iTalki as proof). Honestly, my lessons are very direct and frank. I do not give my empty opinion, but base feedback from the Band Descriptors identifying exactly what's needed for you to improve.我的教材

DELTA - Cambridge English - 2017The DELTA is a diploma level certification which is a step higher than the certification level CELTA. In the UK, the DELTA would be a masters' level course, whereas the CELTA is more like a Bachelors'

DELTA Module 3 - Cambridge - 2017The DELTA is a Master's level qualification in the EU and UK. Module 3 of the certificate requires specialization, mine was exam preparation. This not only shows my deep and profound understanding of the exam process, but is evidence of demonstrated competencies to do so at a Master's level. This also comes from Cambridge, the world's most trusted authorities in the ESL, the part owners of the IELTS and Cambridge Main Suite exams.

2021 - 2024
IELTS teacherConducted thousands of 1-to-1 IELTS exam training sessions to adults in a variety of skills including speaking, writing, reading and listening.
2019 - 2020
Academic CoordinatorLed the teaching team with teacher training, curriculum & material development, managing clients & stakeholders, plus delivering high-end training workshops to UN Agencies, NGOs and various Ethiopian Ministries. Also helped the exams department as an IELTS examiner.
2017 - 2019
Educational Project CoordinatorHeaded a project funded by the UK Government in the National Parliament of Myanmar to better enable Members of Parliament to engage in blended learning programmes. Also managed delivery of English language and professional skills workshops to the parliamentary support staff. Also worked with the exams department British Council's main office in Yangon as an IELTS examiner.
2016 - 2017
ESL TeacherTaught General English classes for student ranging for Young Learners to Adult, Pre-intermediate to Advanced. Also taught exam preparation classes for the Cambridge Main Suite exams. Assisted the exam department as an IELTS examiner.
2016 - 2016
IELTS ExaminerWorked as a full-time IELTS examiner conducting 22 speaking tests/day or 484 tests/month. Also graded writing exams for the paper based test.
2015 - 2016
Educational Project CoordinatorLed a small team in the creation of an English language department for the Ministry of the Interior's new police college. This included establishing the curriculum, creating tests and delivering classes to students. Also worked with the British Council's main office as an IELTS examiner.
2013 - 2015
ESL TeacherTaught classes ranging from General English to teens and adult, exam preparation classes for IELTS and Cambridge Main Suite. Did speaking and writing exam grading for IELTS and KET, PET & FCE.

ESL TeacherWorked with public school teachers providing exam preparation courses (FCE, TKT) in order to adhere to new government certification requirements. Taught Business English and General English to small groups of company employees. Also worked as an examiner for Cambridge Main Suite exams (KET, PET, FCE)

Director of StudiesLed all aspects of the English Language department as Academic Coordinator. Duties included, but not limited to, hiring of new staff, teacher training and development, course development, creating curriculum, public relations and teaching. As well as revitalizing the international studies program.
2011 - 2012
ESL TeacherParticipated in the Iraqi Institute for the Conservation of Antiquities and Heritage: a training facility partnered by IRD, UNESCO and local KRG government. The institute’s focus was to improve the quality and expertise of all aspects of care for regional historical artefacts. Duties were related to preparing participants for overseas studies including exam preparation, English training, cultural awareness and application processes.
2010 - 2011
ESL TeacherWorked on a US Embassy program (ACCESS) aimed at disadvantaged youths in a variety of educationally focused goals, including ESL training, community integration and social awareness. Led youths as a mentor for international exchange programs (YES), scholarships (Fulbright, Nexen) and preparation for international standard tests (TOEFL).
2010 - 2010
Academic ConsultantHeaded an assessment initiative with a local educational NGO working in rural schools in Oaxaca state. Aims evaluated then suggested and implemented modern teaching methodologies and materials. Responsibilities included teacher training, curriculum development and teaching.
2008 - 2009
ESL TeacherResponsible for working with Government ministries, agencies and multinational corporations. Assisted in creating international relation departments of smaller ministries (like the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Ministry of Taxes and Ministry of Economic Development) primarily through management training, ESL training and cultural awareness classes. Also worked with oil related organizations like AzNeft and BP (and some contractors) leading pre-intermediate to advanced classes.
2008 - 2008
ESL TeacherLed English language classes for Pre-intermediate to Advanced adult students.
2007 - 2008
Director of StudiesPerformed duties of International Department Head. Primary responsibilities included teacher training and supervision, curriculum development as well as teaching IELTS classes. Local teachers in the department were trained to use a communicative approach in the ESL classes. The approach proved highly successful and student enrolment in the new department increased exponentially. As a new department, all objectives and goals had to be identified, methodology and materials chosen and testing made.
2006 - 2007
ESL TeacherInitial duties were that of ESL teacher for students ranging from 4 to 60 years old and beginners to advanced. Later responsibilities included development and facilitation of in-company language training program for clients such as Hilton Hotels and SS Pharmaceuticals. At Hilton, an in-house curriculum was developed by creating job specific courses with key phrases and relevant vocabulary important to individual positions within the company.
2005 - 2006
Educational Programming ConsultantWhile working at an ESL school, teaching beginner to advanced level adults, was specially chosen to collaborate in the development of an instructional English language video (English for You) for educational, as well as, commercial purposes. The highly successful program has reached many parts of the Middle East and Northern Africa.

Joe pointed out both my strengths and weaknesses during the session. I didn't have much time to practice with him, as I have my IELTS exam tomorrow. Still, it was a great opportunity to receive constructive feedback just before the test. Most importantly, he encouraged me, which meant a lot.

I got a 7.5 after 6 classes with Joe! He focused on how to pass the exam and maximize the score instead of English language itself. As a result, you can see a big leap in just several days! I could not achieve what I got without his instructions, such as discourse markers, complex sentences and so many other magics.
He’s perfect for IELTS students who want to understand the criteria and see the test from an examiner’s prospective! Highly recommend for people with the language abilities but dont know the exam skills.
