Hey! Oi! I'm Jack Pronouns: He / Him I specialize in organic, mistake-friendly learning, sometimes strict sometimes light. Inclusive: Black community, LGBTQIAP+, neurodivergent minds, people with disabilities, older adults, and everyone else in between. From Rio do Sul, Brazil (yup, we have winters!). I’m obsessed with languages (even the ones I’ll never speak), psychology, dinosaurs. I have a velociraptor tattooed, and also a meteor. But I really like helping people learn languages above all else. Let’s walk, or run, toward ENOUGH fluency together. You can make it prettier later. I look for weekly students, and willing to spend at least ONE extra hour to complete homework. See you soon! I have worked in all kinds of settings. Schools, big and small. Communicative, lexic, audiolingual, active methodologies. I've been a translator, interpreter, ghost writer, teacher. ... Anyway, some years ago I started teaching my own way, and that's why I'm still here. Teaching and learning organically, autonomously, functionally. Using mistakes productively. Not for shaming or making you anxious. Making language real. Not a PDF or Power Point. It's language. It makes sense while there's communication. - We're not reinventing the wheel... We're walking. What an excellent teacher! Jackson is patient, disciplined, and generous with his time and resources. I've learned so much about Brazilian language and culture by studying with him. What I like most about Jackson is that he pushes you to express yourself in Portuguese and corrects you gently but consistently. Although he speaks impeccable English (better than many native speakers!), he never lets you slip into using English as a crutch. He gives you plenty of extra materials that you can use to practice listening and reading. And, on top of all this, he's one of the most gracious language teachers I've ever encountered. I highly recommend him to anyone interested in improving their Portuguese, especially if you are just getting started in exploring this beautiful language.
