Hi! My name is Peter, and I am from the German city of Augsburg (Bavaria), but right now I live in Bogota (Colombia, South America). I have also lived in Spain and the United States. I´m a journalist and a translator, my hobbies are chess, photography and learning languages. I run an Instagram account about German idioms and colloquial expressions called @bitofgerman.

I want to help you feel more at ease when you speak German. As a journalist I am used to talking with people I´ve never met before, and being a passionate language learner myself, I know what it´s like to struggle to speak a foreign language. I know that mistakes are not a bad thing, but part of the learning process.

我的課程內容與教學風格

As a community tutor I focus on conversation, so the first step is finding out what topics you enjoy talking about. As we talk, I will help you to express yourself in a way that sounds more natural. Take this example: “Können Sie Deutsch sprechen?”. That´s a perfectly correct sentence, but native speakers simply don´t use it. They ask either “Können Sie Deutsch?” or “Sprechen Sie Deutsch?“. At the beginning of your journey to fluency, it may be difficult to find the right words, so it might help that you can ask me almost anything in English, Spanish or even French.

I'm taking German at the local community college (finished German I and moving to German II). There are many students in the class so we spend most of our time learning grammar, vocabulary, and about German culture, and speaking only limited phrases. We haven't had much opportunity to try to actually converse in German. I wanted to fill in this missing piece, and improve my conversation skills, by speaking more with native German speakers. However, they aren't easy to find here in California. I'm so glad I found italki. Peter was terrific. Easy to understand, patient, and kind. Given my knowledge level is beginner German, he spoke to me using simpler vocabulary, which I appreciated. I'm excited to converse more with him in the coming weeks and months. Thank you, Peter, and thank you italki!
