Hello, everyone! I am Elena. I am from Guangzhou, a city in south China.
My Chinese name is Jiaxian; I am a native speaker of Mandarin and Cantonese.
I have been working as a language school teacher in Mandarin, Cantonese, and English for over five years. I mainly teach international students. In the classroom, I teach the language and share cultural and historical knowledge.
I already have 7 years of experience in online teaching, with certification to teach Chinese and English to adults and children. Also, I have completed IELTS teacher training courses with a certificate.
When I was in New Zealand for a working holiday a few years ago, I realized that learning their language is always the best way to know more about different cultures. That's why I want to help people who learn about the Chinese language and culture. At the same time, I am committed to supporting Chinese students in improving their spoken English and preparing them for studying and working in an English language environment.
My teaching style is patient, kind, and friendly. We can discuss whatever you need help with, whether reading, writing, listening, or speaking. I like to personalize the content to suit better topics that you are interested in and keep you engaged.

We talked about our day, today, and it branched off into other topics. And then we went on to the reading material. Whenever I wasn't sure of a word to express myself, I would ask, and my teacher would tell me and write it down for me to review. Her teaching style is great!

I’ve been learning with Elena on italki from HSK 1 all the way to HSK 4, and I can’t recommend her enough. She is incredibly patient and understanding—especially because I don’t have much time to study outside of class, so our lessons are basically my only study time. She never makes me feel bad about that and is always accommodating to my situation.
She’s easy to talk to, open-minded, and genuinely enjoyable to learn with, which has helped me stay consistent and keep progressing.
I highly recommend Elena to anyone looking for a patient, flexible, and engaging teacher.
