Hello! I’m Benjamin, a TEFL-certified English teacher from Oregon, USA, now living in Medellín, Colombia. With over 10 years of experience, I specialize in natural conversation practice, exam prep (like IELTS), and fun, interactive lessons for kids. My travels to 20+ countries—and years living in places like Chiang Mai, Thailand—taught me how language connects people. When I’m not teaching, I’m probably discussing films, writing stories, or hunting for rare rocks (geology is my secret obsession!). After obtaining TEFL Certification from the Language Institute at Chiang Mai University I taught classes at Pro Language Chiang Mai in 2008. I remained there until returning home from Thailand in February of 2009. Since then I have done private English tutoring in Thailand, Mexico, and United States.
More recently, I taught English conversation and grammar lessons to students enrolled in Tutlo Online English School, based out of Poland, from 2020 to 2022.
Presently, I have been proudly teaching here on italki for almost six years, engaging with nearly a thousand students over more than 5000 hours of lessons! 我的課程內容與教學風格

I really like Benjamin’s lessons. When I took his lesson in the first time, I was shy and a little worried about making errors. but he was really kind and he encouraged me to express myself, he asked me questions and listened me very carefully. It’s very important for me, because his action gave me more confidence, and enabled me to speak bravely. After ten lessons, I can know what I improved, how much I improved, and I can talk to other native speakers with confident. Ben is a fun and creative teacher! I’ve been taking his lessons for about six months, and he encourages me to talk about a wide range of topics, from video games to current political issues. Even when it’s hard for me to express myself on my own, he asks the right questions to keep the conversation going. The 30 minutes always fly by, and I learn something new every time. I highly recommend his lessen to anyone who wants to practice speaking while having fun in conversation!
