Hi there! I'm New Caledonian French and I live in Japan where I've been teaching English, Japanese and French for several years.
I started teaching at an International Business school in Japan. I then became a foreign language coach for a Japanese company in the tourism industry.
I started teaching online private lessons in 2020 and I would love to teach more of these on italki during my free time!

TOEIC Preparation Qualification Certificate - The TEFL Institute - 2022This course proves that we are trained in Teaching English to foreigners that wish to take the TOEIC test.
It certifies that we have extensive understanding of the TOEIC test itself, but also of the needs of those wishing to score as high as they can on the test.
*The TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication) evaluates the aptitude of non-native speakers for communicating in English in a professional context or in international exchange situations.
TEFL Certification - TEFL UK - 2022A 170 hour course in Teaching English as a Foreign Language with 20 hours of in-class Teaching practicum.
This CELTA equivalent qualification was done with TEFL UK.

2016 - 2020
English teacher - Coach in Exam preparationsDuring my time at this International Business school, I taught all kinds of classes: from teaching general English classes to skill-targeted ones (Reading classes, Grammar classes, Conversation classes, etc) to preparing our undergraduates to sit exams and tests such as the TOEIC, the IELTS or the EIKEN.
This allowed me to get solid foundations as a foreign language teacher and led me to develop my own teaching style and methods.

2020 - 2022
Foreign language teacher & Exam Preparation CoachThose years brought me a wealth of experience as a teacher.
First I coached the staff in English/Japanese so they could enjoy their duties stress-free.
For our hotel, I created tailor-made language courses for guests on workation with my teammates.
There I led and trained teachers as well as conducted classes as the core member of the team. Those years allowed me to specialise even further in catering to adults needing to refine their language skills to perform at a higher level in their job.

Foreign language Coach & International Sales -From coaching the staff in foreign languages (ENG/JP) to represent the compagny on the international scene, my time with the largest water sports compagny of Japan was rich in new experiences on the business scene.

I learnt how to provide Japanese-like service to guests!
I was also lucky to visit amazing places and transmit the love for our country to our visitors who enjoyed trekking, swimming, dining and learning in New Caledoni

Kareen is one of the best teachers I have met on italki and Preply.
She is very patient. She never interrupts. If she wants to correct your mistakes or help you improve in other ways, she will take notes and share them with you when you finish speaking. And she will leave a quiz after class. I love the quiz and requested more.
She tries to have the class immersed in French. But if necessary, she can switch to fluent English or even native-like Japanese, which is so rare. That’s because she has been living in Japan for over 20 years, teaching French and English.
I recommend her highly to anyone who wants to learn French stress-free.

Karen is an excellent teacher! She is very patient and discussions with her are always super enjoyable. Speaking French with her has helped me notice patterns in my speaking skills and correct my mistakes. I never feel judged and I am always excited for the opportunity to speak French with her and learn something new! Merci beaucoup :)
