My name is Katie and I am from Liverpool in the UK. I love to live in different countries and currently I am living in Japan. My hobby is studying ikebana. This is the art of Japanese style flower arranging. It has been my hobby for a few years now and has taught me a lot about nature and beauty. Another passion of mine is learning languages (I study Japanese and Sinhala). I love being both a language student and teacher because I think being able to share learning experiences with my students means we can learn from each other.

I have worked in so many different kinds of environments as a teacher. When I started teaching I was running my own school for volunteers during university. From there I moved on to public school in Japan and followed that up with working for a children focused private language school. I have since been traveling around many different countries and working as a freelance tutor for adults and teens who want to learn English.

I like my lessons to be active and lively. My teaching style is student based so I am always adapting and changing to suit the student. I offer conversation classes as well as profession and in-depth grammar classes and test preparation. My focus is always on giving useful feedback and clear explanations to support my student's growth and development.

學士學位 - English Language and Linguistics with JapaneseYork St JohnMy degree was very heavily influenced by my love of teaching English, including modules on Language Acquisition, Grammar and Phonetics and Second Language Teaching. I was also able to take the CELTA as part of my 3rd Year dissertation and run my own school including designing the curriculum, recruiting students and planning teaching schedules.

My duties were to create fun and entertaining English lessons for students to encourage them to use English and give them help with homework, test preparation and interview practice.

2020 - 2021

English InstructorKings Academy - Hamamatsu, 日本This was a private institution where I taught a variety of ages from 1 year old up. I was encourage to be as engaging and interactive as possible and also due to COVID 19 gained experience with teaching online.
