Hi! I’m Tina — a passionate Latvian language teacher, singer, and choir leader based in Riga. I’ve been teaching on italki since the beginning of 2021. I spent 10 years living in the UK, so I’m fluent in English and I know what it feels like to navigate life in a different country or to learn another language. Alongside teaching, I run two choirs: latvianchoirforexpats (you can find us on Instagram), where foreigners learning Latvian sing popular Latvian songs and explore the culture, and Latvian Lemon Choir, an international choir singing songs in English. I love helping people connect through language, culture, and music.
Because of my background as a musician, I pay a lot of attention to pronunciation, rhythm, and natural speech — it really helps you sound more confident and authentic. I like using structured materials such as books, but I always bring the language to life through conversation. During our chats, I’ll help you notice mistakes, explain grammar clearly, and make sure you actually understand how Latvian works. My goal is to make learning enjoyable, relaxed, and effective.
Latvian isn’t the easiest language, but it’s a rewarding journey — and you don’t have to do it alone! Every student learns differently, and I love adapting my lessons to fit your style. We can focus on grammar, improve your conversation skills, or discuss topics that matter to you.
