I was born and raised in Canada with Japanese and Chinese heritage. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics and I’m currently in Türkiye completing my Master’s in Gastronomy and Culinary Arts. I’m proficient in English and Japanese, speak some Mandarin, and have studied Turkish for 8+ years. I love learning languages and have explored Arabic, Korean, Ukrainian, Hebrew, Bengali, Persian, and Kinyarwanda. Outside of teaching, I am a professional photographer, love cooking, and homebrewing beer and wine!

Hugh is a lovely teacher who is extremely easy to talk to. The lessons are very enjoyable, whether it is conversing in Japanese, or translating sentences. Hugh is a very supportive, patient and personable sensei. I have taken a few lessons with him now. I find it especially helpful that he is both a native Japanese and English speaker. He is able to explain things to me in everyday plain English. I enjoy our classes very much and have been learning a lot from him.
