Dear fellow language learner!
I am a German and English teacher from Berlin, and I have a passion for speaking new languages. While I have had (and continue to have) many amazing language learning and acquisition experiences, I have also experienced dreadful traditional language learning in the classroom and I know how it feels to
- struggle with the memorisation of grammar tables
- be anxious because you can't remember the contents of a class
- be frustrated when you find out that you aren't able to speak even though you have finally memorised the grammar table.
If you have experienced any of those feelings before, I get it! Don't worry, there will be none of these in my classroom.我的教學經歷
I use brain friendly learning methods which help you get a grasp of German in a stress-free manner, and also help you remember what you have learned more easily! You may have heard of Krashen's theory of using comprehensible compelling input for learning, or of the Growing participator approach (GPA). If not, don't worry. The main idea is that I will speak to you in the language you are learning and use gestures and pictures to help you understand. If you get the message, you are improving! Just let your brain do the rest. I see learning as a team effort - improving your skills is not just up to you, but also up to me and the method we use.我的課程內容與教學風格
- I will describe pictures or stories in German and ask questions
- We can have simple conversations from day 1, without the stress of grammatical perfection
- We will learn vocabulary using pictures and a lot of repetition
- I can also create learning materials for your personal learning - you write a script in English or try the best you can in German. It can be about your family, yourself, your hobby. Anything that is relevant to you and that you would like to be able to express. I will then correct (and simplify) your script, and send you a voice recording so you can read along. Annie conducts our lessons almost entirely in German, making good use of pictures to avoid speaking much English. As a beginner, I really appreciate her low-anxiety learning environment. She speaks clearly and carries as much of the conversation as is needed, while gently drawing whatever mangled words and phrases out of me that I feel ready to contribute. As she explains in her video, she is familiar with 2nd language acquisition theories and practice, and has put a lot of thought into the efficacy of various teaching techniques. I have too, and I think Annie has the right approach.

I had a great first lesson with Annie. I am taking an A2 German class and wanted more speaking practice. She speaks at a level I can understand and introduces new vocabulary in a natural way. I think I will see a lot of improvement!
