I have lived in the UK for over ten years, so English feels like my native tongue, and I know British culture well. I speak English and Cantonese fluently, have good Mandarin, and some Japanese. I enjoy playing guitar, and I love learning about cultures through talks, music, and food. I am curious by nature and enjoy meeting people, hearing stories, and sharing ideas.

I have taught in both university and secondary school, working with young people and adults. Students find me approachable and say I make learning comfortable. I explain ideas clearly and welcome questions. I can help students write strong personal statements, as I did for my BA, MA, and PhD. I can support scholarship success: I gained a university-funded MA award and a CHASE scholarship, a prestigious UK arts and humanities body. Additionally, I can help prepare for speaking exams such as IELTS and TOEFL.

I really enjoy learning with Eric. He is patient, professional, and always well-prepared for each class. What I appreciate most is that he listens carefully and tailors the lessons to my needs, whether it’s speaking practice, grammar, or real-life expressions. I’ve studied with almost 40 teachers on italki and taken over 80 lessons in total. With my background in TESOL, experience as an IELTS tutor, and now doing a Master’s in Applied Linguistics, I can honestly say Eric stands out as one of the very best.
