I am a bilingual Japanese teacher qualified in Australia. I offer native fluency and deep cultural insight, providing authentic and culturally relevant learning materials. I can explain Japanese grammar clearly in English — something teachers without training in English-language instruction, AI tools, and self-study resources often struggle to do. My Western educational background also helps me bridge cultural and linguistic gaps for English-speaking learners.
I have been teaching on italki since 2013, supporting students from absolute beginners to advanced levels (N5–N1), especially those who take an active role in learning. Thanks to my students, I have become one of the most experienced Japanese teachers on italki.
I offer two types of lessons
Informal Tutoring (Developing verbal communication skills without textbooks or set plans)
A relaxed space to practise speaking. I correct errors during conversation. This course is only for learners who are already comfortable speaking Japanese.
Professional Structured Lessons (Developing verbal communication skills while building a strong foundation through lesson plans and learning materials)
Using textbooks, Japanese educational resources, and news articles. I also assist with homework, proofreading, and exam preparation.
The ability to recognise hiragana is essential.我的教材

Kara sensei is a great Japanese teacher! In classes, we talk in Japanese for a while before diving into the textbook, which gives a lot of practical practice. Kara is very positive and joyful and makes learning Japanese very fun and enjoyable! I'd definitely recommend taking classes with her.

Kana was gracious with me this week because she knows February is my busiest month of the year. It's with her help that I was able to pass the JLPT N5 in December. I'm excited to aim for the N4 this coming year.

What a wonderful class. We talked the entire time. Kara sensei constantly wrote notes on the chat for me. At the end she said that we had reviewed lessons 1-6 in the book. What a wonderful way to teach. Reviewing material without the student even knowing it. Her class is so much fun. Thank you, Kara sensei.
