Present, appearing, or found everywhere.

“Personal computers became ubiquitous around 15 years ago.”

Wishing to behave/do one’s work or duty well and thoroughly.

“Recycling is important, but the conscientious among us recognise that more needs to be done to solve the problem.”

Wrong or incorrect.

“Some people believe money is more important than happiness, but I believe this is erroneous.”

A useful or valuable thing.

“A microwave is a commodity these days, which leads to an increase in the availability of convenience food.”

Cause (a situation).

“The increased police presence on our streets recently has engendered a feeling of paranoia among residents.”

Most notable or important.

“This essay will cover the salient points from both sides of the argument.”

Based on random choice or personal whim, rather than any reason or system.

Synonym: Random.

“Some people choose their careers based on their long term goals; for others, it is more of an arbitrary decision.”

Deduce something from evidence and reasoning, rather than explicit statements.

Synonym: Understand/work out.

“We can infer that social media disproportionately affects young people, based on their screen time.”

Introducing a statement which reverses one that has just been made.

Synonym: However.

“Private schools benefit those who can afford them; conversely, they can create an elitist environment.”
