Speak English, Don’t Just Study English 💬
One thing I always tell my students is:
Knowing English and being able to use English are two different things.
You can know hundreds of words and understand grammar perfectly… but still freeze when someone asks you a simple question.
So here’s a little challenge for you 👇
Instead of learning 10 new words today, choose one word and make 5 different sentences with it.
For example:
“Challenge”
• Learning English can be a challenge.
• I enjoy challenging myself.
• Speaking with native speakers is challenging.
• My biggest challenge is speaking confidently.
• I want to challenge myself to speak English every day.
This helps you move vocabulary from “I recognize this word” to “I can actually use this word.” ✨
Try it today with one word and tell me your word in the comments!
And if you're working on speaking more naturally and confidently, feel free to check out my teacher profile. 😊

Can you start a written English sentence with “but”?
There’s a lot of debate about this. But – as a journalist who has written numerous articles for British publications – my answer is yes. You can! (See what I did there?)
There’s absolutely no grammatical reason not to.
In fact, it can be really effective, making clear a contrast, as in the example below:
"I used to love shopping. When I ran my own business, I earned a lot of money and I’d think nothing of spending £500 on clothes in a single afternoon. But as time wore on, my attitude changed."
Just be careful about doing it in formal reports or essays as some people still don't like it.
And in case you were wondering, you can also start a sentence with “and”!
