Som de CH do X Quando um ditongo vem antes da letra X (ditongo: duas vogais na mesma sílaba, emitindo um único som) Esta cadeira é muito baixa para eu sentar. Você gosta de peixe cru? Eu estou com uma espinha no meu queixo. Porém, temos exceções. Neste caso, ainda mantemos o som o CH O México é um país muito grande. Coloque o lixo na lixeira. Por favor, não mexa! O Alexandre é um cara muito legal! Se uma palavra começa com X o som também vai ser de CH Eu gosto de jogar xadrez. Ele tomou um xarope, pois estava com tosse. Som de KS do X Geralmente a origem da palavra vem do inglês ou do latim, por isso que pronunciamos o X dessa forma, mas não tem infelizmente, não tem nenhuma regra específica. Este produto é tóxico, causa asfixia. Antes de lutar boxe, eu faço flexão para me aquecer. Este assunto é muito complexo. Quando o X vem ante da letra P, temos o som de S É preciso se expressar! Eu tenho muita experiência nessa área. Eu explico detalhadamente. Como também, o X vem antes da letra T, continuamos com o som de S Esse texto é muito longo. Ele viaja ao exterior frequentemente. É permitido fumar na área externa. Quando o X vem antes da letra C, temos o som de SC O professor disse que eu fui excelente na prova. Há muita exceção na língua portuguesa. Excepcionalmente hoje não terá aulas. *todas as palavras com AU antes de X terão o som de SS Geralmente, são palavras derivadas do verbo Auxiliar. O governo paga um auxílio às pessoas que estão desempregadas. Ela precisa de alguém para auxiliá-la. Quando o X vem junto com o E para expressar ideia de separação; alguém que já foi mas já não é. O meu ex-namorado é um cantor famoso.

JULIA: Hmm … Yeah, that’s a great idea! While we’re here, let’s 
pick up the ingredients.
JULIA: OK, what do we need?
LOUISE: The recipe calls for flour, sugar and butter. Oh, and we 
also need eggs and chocolate chips.
JULIA: Why don’t you get the dairy ingredients? You’ll find those 
in the refrigerated section in the back of the store. I’ll get 
the dry ingredients — they’re in aisle 10.
LOUISE: Great! Let’s meet at the checkout.
JULIA: OK. See you there.



LANGUAGE NOTES
• How about is a casual way to suggest doing an activity. Notice that “how about” is followed 
by an “-ing” verb.
• Hmm … Notice that Julia pauses for a moment. “Hmm” is an expression used to think about 
something first before speaking.
• That’s a great idea! Notice the emphasis on “great.” Julia has thought about it and then 
decided that she really does want to bake cookies.
• The recipe calls for is a way of saying “the recipe says we need.” The phrase “call for” can 
also be used to talk about the weather forecast. (They’re calling for rain.)
• … flour, sugar and butter. Notice that this is a list, so there are short pauses between each 
item. Notice also that each ingredient is stressed because this information is important.
• Why don’t you … This expression is used to ask someone to do something. It can also be 
used to give advice — but in this case two friends are deciding on who does which task.
• Aisle Notice the silent “s” in aisle. An aisle is an orderly lane in a supermarket, with shelved 
products on both sides. Each aisle has a number, so that it is easy to find what you need.
