One track mind? that’s something that comes natural with me. I’ve never been the type of person that can multitask. I’m either working on one project or butchering many others. If I’m doing the laundry let me focus on that. Please don’t ask me to take out the trash. I’m going to get distracted and there will only be one load clean. What does this have to do with language learning? Here’s the thing, I live in a world where my target language isn’t spoken. Whether I am at the supermarket, work, or home. Most people are going to speak to me in my native language. So with all my education in my target language, my environment around me is like gravity forcing me back towards my native tongue. So language learners, it’s a real challenge. We are up against all odds! This is why I mentioned my “one track mind.” Forcing my target language in my daily routine has been that one load of laundry. And I’ve been learning Spanish for 10 years now. I’ve slept with audio playing in the background. I’ve visited “El Mercado,” many times. I’m in the restaurants enjoying Mexican cuisine and also Venezuelan cuisine. All in efforts to immerse myself in the language. And I’m grateful because I’ve reached a level of fluency. Sometimes I understand every word spoken to me. Sometimes I only understand a portion. Sometimes, I read without hesitation in my target language. Sometimes it’s a few words that I need to understand. I often tell people “learning a language is a lifestyle!” It’s not a sprint, it’s an adventure. It’s not about how fast you get there, it’s about enjoying the journey. So take your time and have fun, don’t beat yourself up for time loss. Just pick up where you left off. Resist the gravity! Airplanes were made to do so and we can too with Language Learning. Of course we have to communicate in our native language, but what can we do to propel further into our target language? Keeping this question in forefront of our minds will help to keep making steps forward!

This might be my last post of the year. When it comes to Global warming issue, one of the most famous solutions is to reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions. I came across an interesting online report about ideas except that for solutions for Global warming like Science Fiction and would like to summarize and share some of the interesting points here. The report said one of them is to block sunshine by equipping huge umbrellas in space. The global warming has reached a dangerous level for the past decades. Many different kinds of problems, which are like plenty of disasters due to extreme weather and lack of food by drought, just started occurring. The umbrella for space shield will need a million square miles and is almost the same as Argentina's land area. This is too big construction for a rocket to be launched with the umbrella. So, the idea suggests that a flock of small umbrellas are launched into space and work synchronously. Scientists says we could get rid of the affect of global warming if we blocked a few percentage of radiation from stars. Equipping these umbrellas in space can be less expensive than Stratospheric Aerosol Injection in the long run. I really hope that this idea is a doable plan in the near future because we have no time to spare for global warming.

During the Christmas holidays, I went on a trip to Atami. It was a very relaxing and memorable experience. From our hotel room, we could see the ocean, and the view was incredibly beautiful. Watching the sea from the room made me feel calm and refreshed, especially because the sound of the waves was so soothing. One of the best parts of our stay was the open-air bath in the room. Being able to enjoy a hot bath while looking at the ocean was a luxury I had never experienced before. I could fully relax and forget about my busy daily life. Spending time in the bath helped me slow down and truly enjoy the moment. On the second day, we went to a workshop to make rings. What made this experience special was that we could design and create rings based on our own preferences. We chose the shape, texture, and size ourselves, which made the rings feel very personal and meaningful. Making something with our own hands was both fun and rewarding. By the end of the trip, I felt refreshed both physically and mentally. This Christmas trip to Atami was not only enjoyable but also very special, and it became a wonderful memory that I will cherish for a long time.
