Why is “replace” in “replace the air filter” but “change” in “change baby's diapers”?

I finished reading a book I found in my house some weeks ago. I have some mixed thoughts about it. It recalled me of some others book I’ve read before, long ago. They are dystopians. The book seems to fit in the genre. Some children were shipwrenked and started surviving in an island. There is mystery and many symbolisms in the book. The prose is captivating; the author steadily immerses the reader in the book's world. It is a page-turning for me. Therefore, I do believe it is a pretty good book. However, it had a very bitter-sweet ending, and many eerie moments.
