Nous sommes à l’École américaine à Paris. Les élèves sont américains, mais le professeur est français. C’est le premier jour de l’école et la première leçon de français.
Le professeur fait l’appel : les élèves doivent répondre « Présent, monsieur » ou « Absent, monsieur ». Il insiste pour qu’on parle français et non anglais.
Bill, un élève américain, a du mal à comprendre. Le professeur lui dit : « Dans cette classe, on parle français. J’insiste ! Il est défendu de parler anglais en classe. »
