Beschreibung
In Episode 253 you picked up the slang that friends and young people throw around. But a lot of colloquial Hindi lives somewhere else: at the dining table, in the playful teasing between cousins, in the way an aunt tells a nephew to stop the drama, and out on the street with shopkeepers and auto drivers. These words are not in textbooks, yet you will hear them every single day in an Indian home. In this episode: • Calm down: tension, light and faaltu • Trouble, scares and tired heads • Gentle teasing • Praise: tashan, tez and jugaadu • Slipping away and switching off • The street and the uncle-ji tone • Scene: a sunday at home • Practice • Self-check questions with answers Key Hindi from this episode: टेंशन मत लो (tension mat lo) = Don't take tension, don't worry. Fine with family. मुझे बहुत टेंशन है (mujhe bahut tension hai) = I'm really stressed. कोई टेंशन नहीं (koi tension nahin) = No worries at all. ये फ़ालतू का सामान है (ye faaltu ka saamaan hai) = This is useless stuff, junk. बहुत झंझट है (bahut jhanjhat hai) = It's a big hassle. चमचा (chamcha) = spoon, used to mean someone who flatters the boss. Friends only. वो तो बॉस का चमचा है (vo to boss ka chamcha hai) = He's the boss's yes-man. बड़ी नौटंकी है (badi nautanki hai) = What a drama queen. ड्रामा मत करो (drama mat karo) = Stop the drama. Fine with family, older to younger. कंजूस (kanjoos) = stingy, a miser. Fine with family as a joke. पापा बहुत कंजूस हैं (Papa bahut kanjoos hain) = Papa is so stingy, said laughing. चिपकू (chipku) = clingy, someone who sticks to you. Friends only. घोंचू (ghonchu) = a dopey, slow person, said fondly. Friends only, never with elders. टशन (tashan) = style, swagger.
