Join me in a reading of the classic 'Twas the Night Before Christmas by Clement C. Moore first written in 1823.  This story was the inspiration for the modern-day image of Santa Claus.  Some of the words are outdated, but it remains a charming tale enjoyed by children during the Christmas season.

おはようございます。日本語だんだんポットキャストのゆかりです。

今日は信号(しんごう)のはなしです。

日本にも、世界にも、どこにでも信号はありますね。

青(あお)は、すすんでいい。

赤(あか)はとまらないといけないですね。

ところで、信号の色は何色ですか？

日本の信号は、

赤、青、黄色(きいろ)です。

えっ、でも信号の色って、

青じゃなくて、みどりじゃない？

日本に来たことがある人は、そう思うかもしれません。

いいところに、気がつきましたね。

たしかに、色はみどりなんですが、

私たちは、赤、青、黄色といいます。

これは、いろいろな理由(りゆう)があるのですが、
昔(むかし)は、青色のことを緑色といっていたから、だそうです。

ほかにも、緑色だけど、"青"ということはあります。

たとえば、緑色のりんごは、
"青りんご"といいます。

"青々(あおあおとした)葉っぱ"

"青汁を飲む"

なども、そうですね。

みなさんの、国の信号の色はなんですか？

日本とおなじで、赤、青、黄色ですか？
