The last movie I watched is “A City of Sadness” directed by Hou Hsiao-Hsien from Taiwan. It is based around the story of a family in Taiwan during the post-World War II period - a time when lots of immigrants flocked to Taiwan and the government was corrupted. It depicted the conflicts between the local people in Taiwan and the immigrants, as well as the government’s oppressive policy against the people who were considered as “traitors”.
What so special about this movie is that it is not stirring a heartbreaking feeling by one or two particularly striking scenes. Instead, a melancholy tone was developed throughout the plot and you would be left with unspeakable bitterness when you finished the movie. It may sound ridiculous, but this movie has actually brought me three sleepless nights.

Really good 😌. Another option:
What’s so special about this movie is that there’s a melancholy tone throughout rather than there just being one or two particularly moving scenes. You are left with unspeakable bitterness at the end.
