It's overcast today, and, according to the Chinese calendar, it is the winter
solstice. (it’s the winter solstice according to every calendar!) As expected, it's very cold outside. People celebrate this occasion in
various ways. Most families have a big feast together, while some choose to have
a cookout (?). However, there are some traditions I don't particularly enjoy, such
as the letting off (to fire firecrackers sounds repetitive) of firecrackers. Instead of the usual slow-paced manner, they
ignite rapidly and suddenly. It can be quite overwhelming, resembling a war
zone for a few seconds with the loud bangs happening all around. Nevertheless, I
want to wish you a happy Winter Solstice!
