- Did you have any problems in your English study?
- Yes, _ a friend to practice speaking with.
Why we use 'finding' rather than 'to find' to fill this blank?
So, the sentence 'what problem I have is to find a friend to practice speaking with' is wrong?

Hello, how are you?
Finding a friend to practice with is what I need.
(Finding a friend... -- subject -- is -- verb --)
Finding a partner can be difficult in this society.
(Finding a partner... -- subject -- can -- verb --)
When a infinitive is the subject of another verb 'always' takes the -ing- form.
- Do you have a problem...?
* Yes, finding a friend to practice with (IS my/the problem).
Take note of this because this is clear 🙂
However, what follows is not clear at all.
I've come to the conclusion that DOING what I want is the answer.
- What you have to do is find/to find/finding a partner to practice with.
When the infinitive comes AFTER 'is', you'll see or hear the three forms. No one has been ever able to explain this to me. Some say one thing, others say another.
Maybe, someone here can explain this to us both. 😉
Cheers 🥂
