Hi guys what is the difference between sing up to an new account and sign up for a new account?

1)Today, I signed up for a new bank account. 
2) I need to sign up for a new account because I moved to another country.

I think there might be regional differences here, but I would personally only say “sign up for”. (I’m from Philadelphia, USA).
