On a quote by the Third President Thomas Jefferson " I'm a great believer in luck, and I find the harder I work, the more I have of it. " , What is the "of" in "the more I have of it" ? Although I know the clause after "I find" means "the more I work, the more luck I get".

By using "of" Jefferson implies that there is a quantity of luck available, of which he will receive more if he works hard. It is possible to write the sentence without using "of" but it implies something slightly different, that luck is a quality that he receives. Both effectively mean the same, but have slightly different overtones.
