Hi, English teachers or native English speakers! I would like to ask you a question. Why doesn't ''I and my sister....'' make sense? I think in grammar, it should work. So is it any rules or is it just one of the confusing English usages?

it is customary to ourselves last in the order of subjects. as with many many aspects of english, there isn't a hard and fast rule here. but as the language developed over the centuries, this order became the standard norm and deviations from it do sound odd.

Interestingly, native speakers can put themselves first, but for it to be natural you have to make other grammatical errors! For example, My sister and I disagree with you. (Correct) Me and my sister disagree with you. (Not correct, but very natural and native, with a slightly different meaning. To me, it suggests that my disagreement might be more important than hers. But changing ‘me’ to ‘I’ here makes the sentence less correct, not more! You can’t do it.)

I got you

先说他人再说自己大表示一种尊重意味,先说自己再说他人在语法上没有问题,但是不够native。

Correct English always puts the other person before you. (My sister and I went to the store.)
