Question) Tell me about your parents? My answer) What I did like about my parents was that they allowed me to be myself. They didn't care what I wore to school or how I cut my hair. They pretty much left me alone, and I liked that. Sometimes they were restrict but they didn't try to impose their way of thinking on me, allowing me to make choices for myself. I appreciate it. Could you please make my writing sound more like a native speaker? Thank you for your time and your help.

"What I liked about my parents was that they allowed me to be myself. They didn't care what I wore to school or how I did/ cut my hair. They pretty much left me alone/ they left me alone most of the time and I liked it. They were strict sometimes but never tried to impose their way of thinking on me, allowing me to make my own choice and I appreciated that". Your paragraph is in past tense and I kept it that way when I wrote my own version or rather how a native speaker would say it.
