I recently read this phrase: 只要是学过一段时间中文的朋友应该知道。。。 The translation of this phrase according to many sites is: Anyone who has studied chinese for a while should know.... I am confused about this phrase because a literal translation of the phrase is: "If only there is a friend that has studied chinese for a while he should know..." I can't find this pattern or usage of "只要". I know these ones: - 只要。。。才。。 - 只要。。。就。。 So i am not sure about that usage. If I say: 只要是去过一段时间中文的朋友应该知道什么什么 According to that pattern does it mean: Anyone who has travelled to china for a time should know blablabla... Is that correct? Thanks in advance.
