When you are still at the beginning stages of learning a new language it is important to build a strong foundation of vocabulary and basic grammar. Do not try to use translate apps, listen podcast with subtitles in English then write the word that you don't know and search the meaning in Chinese, I do that ,that helps me to know new vocabulary.
