CAMBRIDGE C1 ESSAY PRACTICE: What policies can we follow to reduce traffic in the town centre?
The congestion in the town centre is an extremely serious issue which need to be addressed. But how?
I firmly believe that public transport and cycle paths are the best solutions that we could think of in terms of sustainability.
WHY CYCLE PATHS?
Cycling has always been considered as a great activity with regard to the reduction of pollution. Furthermore, this choice could also pave the way for a better understanding of the benefits that this sport can bring. In fact, cycling is healthy and environmentally-friendly. Unfortunately, they are not so many in number.
WHY PUBLIC TRANSPORT?
After attending the local council meeting, I found myself pondering over a participant's opinion. According to her, despite the existence of buses and trams, very few people make use of them. Frankly, I couldn't agree more. In fact, public transport is often synonym with dirt and neglect, and this makes it undoubtely unattractive in people's eyes. Although this being true, we can't forget how significant a role it plays in the decrease of traffic.
I strongly affirm that the promotion of cycle paths and public transit would not only lead the way for a better lifestyle, but it would certainly make the difference for the environment and the livability of our towns as well.
In addition to that, car accidents could be remarkably reduced. But under no circumstances can we ignore the urge to improve our public transportation and to build more cycle paths, which is essential if we intend to take advantage of them. So, what are we waiting for? Let's act!
