Cultural context: used throughout Britain to describe a regular bloke, an ordinary guy.
2. Brolly
The term "brolly" comes from a modification of "(um)brell(a)" that dates back to approximately 1870–1875. It was popular because it was enjoyable and simple to say. People still refer to their umbrellas as "brollies" in casual conversations because "brolly" became so well-known over time.
Example: "Don't forget your brolly; it's going to chuck it down," for instance, might be said.
