Is the idiomatic phrase "Someone got promoted" a secret language meaning "Someone was fired" ?
When I was reading the page of which photo I I posted here too, I saw a sentence that said "I heard you got promoted", which is translated "クビになったって聞いたよ".
This Japanese means that I heard you were fired.
Is it true that to get promoted also means to be fired ?

I don't understand why the book has 'promoted' translated to 'fired' in English. Someone please tell me if there is a dialect of English where this makes sense 😅
日本語で"to be fired"と"to be promoted"とはどういう意味ですか?

Normally, promoted is never fired so there must be an error in translation.
However you can joke around by saying “Did you get promoted to unemployment?”

I've never heard promoted to mean getting fired, but maybe it could be used ironically to mean that? I agree with Jade that it means to move up, to go into a better professional position.

'to get promoted' means to move up in the workplace. It means to get a better job within the same company that you already work for. 'to get a promotion' is is the same.
Example:
I was working as a server at a restaurant but I got promoted to manager!
Today my girlfriend got a promotion to head designer!
