I don't understand this phrase at all,are these typos?
For example,
"Long before the ancient Egyptians tried to conquer the desert. But the construction of a waterway failed; the canal silted up. Nor was this ambitious project realized under Napoleon. His surveyors, after making some miscalculations, deemed the project unfeasible."

Is "nor" in this context mean, the construction of a waterway was not ambitious project that made Napolean realize???

In English, the pattern of NEITHER ... NOR is pretty common.

In other words, "NEITHER the ancient Egyptians NOR Napoleon was able to build a canal across the desert."

P.S. The usual rule is to use the singular verb "was" after a singular subject such as "Napoleon."

But: "Neither Napoleon nor the ancient Egyptians WERE able to build a canal across the desert."
