Professionelle Lehrkraft🇬🇪 Why is Georgian called the "Language of the Soul"?
Hi everyone! 👋
Today I want to share a piece of my native language – Georgian. It is one of the oldest languages in the world, with its own unique alphabet (it looks like a vine, doesn't it? 🍇).
In Georgia, we have a saying: "Gaumarjos!" (გაუმარჯოს). While it means "Hello," its literal meaning is "Victory!". It shows our history and spirit.
Here are 3 essential Georgian phrases every traveler or language lover should know:
Gmadlob (გმადლობ) – Thank you. Pro tip: If you want to be extra polite, say "Didi madloba" (Big thanks).
Gaumarjos! (გაუმარჯოს!) – A toast! 🍷 In Georgia, the "Supra" (feast) is a ritual, and this word is the key to it.
Shen genatsvale (შენ გენაცვალე) – This is almost impossible to translate! It’s an expression of deep love and devotion, meaning "I would take your pain/place for myself."
Why learn Georgian with me? Georgian grammar can be tricky (especially our verbs!), but because I am a Linguist and a Native speaker, I can make it simple, logical, and fun.
👇 Question: Have you ever seen the Georgian alphabet? What does it remind you of? (Some say hearts, some say flowers!)
