English learners: what word do you find the hardest to pronounce?

My mother always used to find it hard to pronounce words with a double 'o' in it the hardest.
For example, 'wood', 'zoo', 'food'
They are all pronounced differently!

What are your thoughts?

double letters are important, especially in pronunciation ... you may say something different from what you want. Writing is more difficult to commit errors of meaning.

for example if you say "wod" and not "wood" i can understand that you said "would" :)

"for example if you say "wod" and not "wood" i can understand that you said "would""

Actually, "wood" and "would" have the same pronunciation. If "wod" were a word, it'd be pronounced to rhyme with "what".

Jisu, your post seems to be more about sounds that are hard to pronounce than words. "Th" is generally hard for English learners, since it doesn't exist in most language. The only other language I know of that has a 'g' in it is Icelandic. English "w" seems to be absent in a lot of European languages. It exists in Japanese and Chinese, but the only European Ianguage I know about that it exists in is Polish. Chinese and Dutch are the only languages Ibknow about with a sound the same as or similar to English "r" (I think it exists in some Scandanavian languages as well.

The Italian and German Rs are very common in European languages, but they're entirely absent in English. I think the Italian R is pretty intuitive, even if you've never done it before. The German "r" takes a lot of practice though. The Dutch "g" sound doesn't exist in English. As far as I know Dutch is the only language it exists in (although Mandarin "h" is somewhere between English/Dutch "h" and Dutch "g"). Mandarin has a lot of consonants which are alien to English speakers. Mandarin "sh" and "x" both sound similar to English "sh", but neither of them are exactly like it. Mandarin "j" and "zh" both sound similar to English "j", but they're three different sounds. It's the same with Mandarin "q" and "ch", and English "ch".

I think i'm not good at pronunciation , but I'll do my best to improve it.

One of the best ways to improve pronunciation is listening to musics or podcasts.

By the way , I've always have problem in pronuncing "Desert" and "Dessert" or some other words in this type which are similar to eachother with different pronunciation.

I confuse them :|
